the brief wondrous life of oscar wao

 

I recently read the brief wondrous life of Oscar Wao, and loved it. 

The book is about a family from the Dominican Republic who have emigrated to the US, who are followed by a curse, or fukú, or as Lola, the daughter of the family puts it, maybe its just life.

This is the first of several self-initiated book covers for my portfolio, where I want to try and experiment a bit more with how I use photoshop and mixed media.

So, this was the result of me trying to be less strict with how I work in photoshop.
I started without a sketch, just with the idea in my head, and tried to work more intuitively.

into the woods lino

I have been very inspired by the abundance of snow this weather. This last week I did a bit of lino-cut-ing, which turned into this little thing

I miss having a press for the printing, though. I had to apply very alternative methods to get the whole image to register.
I added the little blue footsteps later by hand.

Paris

I recently completed this little thing for a friend of mine.

I had a great time with the French clichées and the mixed media. Also, I love when things work in just a very simple colour scheme.
